Metalfold Industries Bloomfield Premier 3 vs Manawatu Foxton CC & Maw Haws.
After the highs and lows of the final the weekend before it was hard to get the enthusiasm up for the T20 tournament starting this weekend. There were 2 games this week and our first was against Manawatu/Foxton. Trout won the toss and decided we would have a bat. Jase And Chris got us off to a good start once again. Chris was the first to go, caught at long on off the bowling of Jack Brown. Jase continued to plunder though and with help from Kurtis, they got us through to 105 before Kurtis was out with and incredibly plumb LBW, bowled by Craig Collis.
Jase followed him back to the tent shortly afterward, out for 68 off 46. After a short stay from Trimmy, Trout and Lazer were left at the crease to ensure the good start didn’t go to waste. Some solid striking from both managed to get us through to a competitive total of 160 for 4 of our 20 overs. Trout finishing not out on a very lovely 27.
With Ben hobbling around the field somewhere it was up to Gaz to shrug off his injury and open the bowling. He got off to a tidy start as usual but without making a breakthrough. Kurtis attempted once again to show his prowess as an opening bowler and was once again shown why he should stay in his lane. Our bowling lacked discipline and too many full tosses and mistakes in the field allowed ManFox through to 63 before they lost their fist wicket. Bishtopher Chrishop was the first person to make a breakthrough. He came in and claimed 3 wickets off his 4 overs. I would love to tell you who they are but PlayHQ is terrible as usual. Those 3 wickets and a run out alongside a good couple of overs by Craig Trim, Kurtis and Gaz, all who claimed a wicket each, put enough pressure on ManFox that the runs dried up. ManFox eventually ending their innings on 143 for 7 off their 20 overs. Bloomfield winning by 17 runs.
Our next match was against last weeks opponents, Maw Haws. It was obvious to some that this game and all those around it should have been called off or at least delayed in the first 5 overs due to the amount of rain that was falling. The playing conditions we had been playing under for the previous 4 seasons had clearly been thrown in the bin as 4 of the 5 P3 matches trudged on while the official umpires on Manawaroa pulled over the covers.
Put into bat again things didn’t go exactly to plan. Jase went early, bowled for 5 followed by Bish for 9. Sanchez (Craig Trim), Dave Watson, Trimmy and Lazer all went cheaply leaving Trout as the only batsman hitting any runs. Kurtis hung around for a bit hitting a handy 21 but after he was out caught we fell apart like a cheap suit. Ben hit a ramp shot. Bloomfield 103/10.
With a break in the weather, we hit the field. Gaz opened again and found much tighter lines making Greg and Si work hard for their runs. Bish made the first breakthrough removing Si for 4 before Gaz picked up the wicket of Greg Lough for 16. That was about the only success we had as the rain came back and made the prospect of play even more ridiculous. But play on we did with Maw Haws only losing one more wicket before easily making the mediocre target in the 18th over.
