Asbestos Surveys Bloomfield vs PNBHS 3rd XI

After bowling first in the last 2 games and playing rubbish Boy’s high were nice enough to win the toss and put us into the field for another go.

To shake things up a bit Clifford decided to give the brand new, shiny ball to Kurtis to throw down some spin. His overs were pretty tight but luckily, he only got two overs before he was replaced by professional opening bowler, Gary Francis. Ben and Gaz bowled tight lines but the Boy’s High opening pair of Matty Rowe and Kieran Gill looked solid. Craig the Destroyer Dawson and David Hamo came on for a bowl and continued the pressure with both batsmen finding runs hard to come by.

Heading into the 34th over we still hadn’t managed to take a wicket but with the score only 34 the game was very much in the balance. A lovely shot by Matty Rowe off the bowling of Dei Hamo through cover caused a mix up between the batsmen. A mint throw from the boundary by Sam found Kieran Gill short of his ground. Oliver Murray joined the rock that is Matty Rowe and they managed to keep the score ticking over, reaching drinks at 57/1.

Craig opened up after drinks and struck almost immediately, trapping Oliver in front LBW for 11. Jacob Duker came to the crease to join the unbreakable Matty Rowe and together they put on a 55 run partnership. But all good things must come to an end. The message had come from the boundary that they needed to start increasing their run rate. Or it could have been about something else. No idea. The next couple of balls went to the boundary so take from that what you will. The increase in boundaries caused an increase in risk and off the bowling of Kurtis Matty finally skied one to Sam at cover, caught out for an impressive 59.

Jacob Duker was still at the crease and finding the boundary but with the other end now open the wickets began to fall. Ben, who came back to the crease fuelled up on Panadol, was the lucky recipient of those wickets removing Ryan Harrison, Kruiz Ioane and finally Jacob Duker for 37. Boy’s High batted out their 40 overs reaching 140/6.

Ongley 13

Our batting got off to another good start with Aaron Pheoebe Hatton and Gary Marmaduke Francis putting together a swashbuckling partnership of 56 before Aaron was caught out doing something for 26. Ehsan Muhammad then came on and bowled a pearler of a delivery to remove Antz for 7. Gaz carried on spinning yarns at the crease and hitting the odd run before being trapped in front LBW by another nice ball from Ehsan and suddenly Bloomfield were up shit creek.

Kurtis was next in after being promoted to 4. The theory being if you have been rubbish at batting just move up the order. At first this plan looked as stupid as it sounded as Kurt had an early let off being dropped at mid-on. Perhaps it was the look on Ben’s face or the fact that his bat eats runs and was starving, Kurtis started batting. With 75 runs required for the win Kurt went and scored 61 of them. Well at least that’s what he said and its 11pm and I cant be bothered doing the math. Sam helped him out at the other end though with a solid 4 off 5 and Craig Trim came to the crease to run himself our real quick to make it look like a proper collapse. Kurtis wasn’t having a bar of it though, not allowing Ben to face a ball and hit the winning runs. Bloomfield finishing on 142/5 for the win.

A good win for us this week against an awesome Boy’s High team. It was good to see the talent coming through and somehow not get beaten by it.

A pissed off Clifford after an intense fine session

Accelerate Bloomfield vs Old Boys

After a week of player changes and the fun that comes with that, we made it to game day. Did a toss, lost the toss and we were put in to bowl.

We started with the tried and trusted combination of Chris and Corey opening the bowling. There was a bit of wind blowing through the park so Corey let Chris the Old Dogg have his way and allowed him to bowl with the wind. Corey bowled first and didn’t get a wicket in the first over so contemplated removing himself from the bowling attack. Chris then bowled and went for a couple. Last ball of his second over Corey decided to dismiss the ever-dangerous Stephen Wales, first catch as keeper for Zach. We watched as Joseph and Jeremey noodled it around for a bit before Chris decided to get Jeremy bowled out. Corey nabbed the wicket of Alex soon after then put Randy and Trimmy in to have a bowl. Yes, our team was blessed to witness a bowling spell from the clubs own Trimmy. He bowled well, eventually getting the important wicket of Joeseph Ward soon got him with a lovely catch executed by Blair. Couldn’t deny that one came off the bat. Rowan and Sukh had a bowl and did well but some lovely twilight style batting allowed Old Boys to get a few runs. They finished their innings on 171 with the wickets being shared around.2 for Corey and 1 each or Chris, Trimmy, Randy and Sukh.

Our batting innings started as you would expect with Rowan and Greg opening. Rowan got a couple runs but Greg decided sitting on the boundary planning a night playing PubG was a better idea, so got bowled out on his 3rd ball faced for nought. Chris started well, then remembered how much he loves a good cut shot, but hasn’t learnt how to play one and nicked it through to the keeper. Rowan liked the idea of a PubG yarn so followed him shortly after. Steven and Randy knocked it around a bit then Steven skyed one with a big leading edge and was caught. Skipper Corey come to the crease looking forward to creating a big partnership with Randy, until Randy squared up in front of the stumps and got hit on the pads. Sukh then started well but under estimated the skill of the Old Boys captain and got run out trying to take a quick single off a mis-field. This brought Blair to the crease, testing out his new bat, smashes a boundary then gets poled next ball. Zach and Corey formed a bit of partnership, hitting a few boundaries and surviving a few chances including possibly the biggest leading edge off the big edges of Corey’s bat. Zach soon went for 16 runs allowing new comer to P3 cricket, Luke Morrison (yes, the poor guy is Greg’s son). The bowler saw the lack of confidence in Luke’s batting form and bowled him on his 3rd ball faced. This was unfortunately our final wicket as Trimmy had to leave early and our 12th man Mark Bary (Daddy Trout) wasn’t able to bat. At this stage we were within 48 runs of chasing down the total. Not many runs across the board but some promising scores, 16 from Zach, 20 From Randy and a 37 not out from Corey

Bowled out in the 32nd over, clearly missing a few runs earlier in the innings and falling short by 48 runs. Tough game with a few things made to go Old Boys way but that’s P3 cricket. Freyberg next week and the boys will be back looking to take the win.

Greg at training.
