Asbestos Surveys Bloomfield vs Palmerston CC Super XI
After both our games in Dannevirke being rained out the week before we were looking for a strong bowling performance this week. Our bowlers were hit all round the park last week with Dannevirke posting a daunting 250 off their 40 overs. The total became a lot less daunting early in our batting innings as Gaz and Aaron put on a flawless 50 run partnership in 7 overs before the rain set in. After a week to reflect, our Friday night practice was certainly more focused.
Ongley 9 (stunner)
Antz won the toss and elected to field. Gaz, returning from a shoulder injury, joined Benjamin opening the bowling. Both started well enough bowling tight lines and both batsmen found it difficult to score. Ben was the first to make the breakthrough bowling Bobbali for 4. The opening bowlers were replaced by Craig Trim and Damian Schilling and it was clear the batsmen were keen to start playing some shots. It eventually took a very good ball from Craig Dawson to remove Vineet Sharma, caught in the slips by James Pilcher, and then he bowled Karan Sharma for 8. That left things nicely balanced at 88/3 at drinks.
After drinks things started off rather well with Ben and Aaron restricting runs nicely but were unable to take a wicket. Once their spell was over the fireworks started and boundaries began to flow. Our bowlers struggled to find their length on a very good batting wicket and against two in form batsmen. Dropped catches then once again began to plague us and the tension between the sides began to show through. It didn’t seem to matter where Antz placed the field the ball seemed to find its way across the fast outfield to the boundary. Bowling changes didn’t help and when Craig Dawson was finally able to grab the wicket of Aman Kanyan the damage had been done. Palmy finished their innings 241/4.
Our batting innings got off to a good start with the runs flowing freely but a loose shot from Aaron and then Antz put us on the backfoot. Gary who had opened and was batting steady was joined by James Pilcher in his first game for Bloomfield. Together they put on a great partnership and batted us through to drinks at 85/2. Gaz was the next to go shortly after drinks for 28 and then James followed getting caught out trying to go over top for 35. We had plenty of batsmen to come but it was clear time was running out. A cameo each from Kurt and Lazer of 19 and 18 respectively wasn’t enough to get us close. Bloomfield bowled out for 189 in the 39th over.
So a tough all round loss for the boys with improvements needed across the board.
MVP- Ben 3, James 2, Gaz 1
A very sad Kurtis after copping a record breaking $11 fine during the fine session.
Accelerate Auto Bloomfield vs Dannevirke Yellow
After being rained out the week before, the lads were keen to get some game time in. This week, the delightful Manawatu decided to bless us with near perfect conditions and starting off by winning the toss, the Trouts were off to a good start. Bowling first on a new Ongley 11 pitch.
The opening attack of Corey and Chris got underway and kept the batsmen fairly quiet including Chris getting the first wicket in his first over. From there the scoring never really took off with just a few runs coming from Gordon Kuggeleijn with his classic cuts through point and gulley. It took until the 8th over before we managed to get the next wicket with Chris bowling Ben Tainui. Gordon carried on holding up an end allowing Jacob Smith to come to the crease and whack a few runs. A good bit of cricket from Jason finally brought about the end of Gordon, finishing on 23 off 70. Jacob was the only batsmen that really got going, getting to 43 of 54 before Sukh got him out LBW. After Jacob there was a quick 21 scored at number 7 while everyone else didn’t make double digits. Top scorer Jacob Smith with the extras being next. Dannevirke all out on the last ball of the 40 overs for 148 with wickets being shared around,3 each to Jason and Corey and 2 for Chris and Sukh. 149 to win!
Opening the batting we decided to mix it up bit and throw the "experience" of Greg Morrison in there. Greg and Jason opened up with Jason, deciding to hang around this week, hit 12 runs off the first over including two 4’s and one 6. Greg lasted till the 3rd over getting a quick 8 off 7 balls (At least his strike rate was more than 100). Chris came in at 3 this week to give that go and it proved to be a good move. Jason got out in the 5th over for a quick fire 20 off 12 bringing the big power hitting of Randy (The Randolorian) to the crease. He smacked 19 including 3 boundaries in his entertaining way before being bowled by a straight one from Blair Moynihan. Randys wicket bought Corey out to the middle and together with Chris they built a solid partnership of 42 before Corey chopped a short one back on to his stumps. Chris kept ticking along the runs alongside Sukh before he played and missed a straight one while swinging for cow corner. Steven’s contribution of 1 run came off 7 balls leaving Sukh and Zach to finish things off. Chasing the total down in the 23rd over Sukh finished the innings off in classic Bloomfield fashion with a boundary.
Another win under the belt after a couple of close losses and another game played in good spirit with our good mates from Dannevirke. Next week, Old Boys....
