Metalfold Industries Bloomfield Premier 3 vs Palmy Legends
Saturday the 28th of November at Onlgley Park A4
A stunning day greeted us at Ongley Park, which was quite soggy after a week of rain. We set up our new tent and got to work sorting out the PlayHQ scoring software that has once again been imposed on club cricket by NZ Cricket. Palmy won the toss and chose to bowl, much to Jase's delight. However, his delight was short-lived, as his innings was abruptly cut short after being caught out for just 2 runs.
Trout then came out to join Bish at the crease, but his stay was also brief as he hit a couple of confident shots before being bowled out. Kurt was the next to bat but managed to survive some fairly accurate bowling. Between himself and Bish, they made their way through to the drinks break. Unfortunately, PlayHQ's "Ball by Ball" feature only lists the final total, so I can't provide you with the exact moment when Bish reached his 50.

Bish and Kurtis continued after the drinks break, but they struggled to increase the scoring rate due to the muddy outfield. After spending some time at the crease with Bish, Kurtis tried to hit a wayward legside delivery for 4, but he hit it straight to the fielder and was out for a solid 37. Lazer, playing his first game of the 23/24 season, got things off to a good start. Despite a lackluster performance in the nets the night before, he seemed to have found some form in the past 12 hours and looked good on his way to 24. After Lazer was out LBW, Paulie came to the crease to try and see out the innings with Bish, who had just scored his second century for the club. Paulie contributed a quickfire 17, and Bish added around 30 more runs, taking us to a first innings total of 239/5. Bish finished on 130, getting bowled on the last ball of the innings.
Our opening bowlers, Ben and Gaz, began well by restricting the big-hitting Palmy openers early. However, a dropped catch, misfields, and a couple of botched runout opportunities didn't help our cause. Chicken and Sukh came on to try and take a much-needed wicket, but the batsmen's luck held, with another dropped catch and more misfields letting them off the hook. Kurtis made the breakthrough just before the drinks break, removing Anuj Basatia for 47. At the drinks break, Palmy was at 101/1.
After that breakthrough, there was no real resistance from Palmy, with the remaining batsmen struggling to handle what Kurtis and Sanchez were throwing at them. A further 97 runs were added with wickets consistently falling along the way. Palmy battled through their 40 overs but fell 41 runs short, finishing at 198/9.
MVP: Bish 3, Kurt 2, Sanchez 1.
Accelerate Automotive Bloomfield Premier 4 vs Dannevirke
Dannevirke Domain A1
In what was anticipated to be a thrilling encounter on a grass wicket, a sudden change in plans took the teams to the artificial turf on a beautiful sunny day in Dannevirke. Bloomfield lost the toss and were sent to field first. The opening bowler for the visiting team, Keiran Bary, quickly got into his rhythm, sending the Dannevirke opener back to the pavilion for just 6 runs. It was Bary's in-swinging yorker that did the trick, setting the tone for his spell. He finished with impressive figures of 2 wickets for 36 runs in his 6 overs.

As the game progressed, captain Dawson took over the bowling duties and delivered a tidy spell, picking up 3 crucial wickets while conceding only 17 runs in his 6 overs. Our bowlers had some wayward deliveries and Dannevirke capitalized but we still managed to restrict Dannevirke to a total of 203 runs, getting them all out in 35 overs. Chasing a target of 203, George and Greg got off to a flying start with the opening partnership reaching a commendable 89 runs. George led the charge, smashing 63 runs off just 43 balls, while Greg contributed 18 runs off 41 deliveries. However, as the middle order took the crease, they struggled to maintain the momentum. With the score at 99-4, Dave managed to add 15 runs off 17 balls, and with the team's total at 152-8, Steveo showcased some excellent batting skills, contributing 26 runs off 25 balls.

Despite the middle-order wobble, we staggered to be all out for 190 runs, falling just short of the target set by Dannevirke. It was a fantastic effort from the entire team, with some standout performances both with the ball and the bat. With our heads held high, we look forward to our upcoming match against Fryberg, hoping to build on their impressive performance and secure a victory in the next game.
MVP George 3, Keiran 2, Steveo 1.
