Metalfold Industries Bloomfield vs Dannevirke Yellow

With a change from artificial to a grass wicket late Friday before the game, the lads were G’d up to have a bowl on it. So they loaded up the flying dutchman with humans and the silverado with gear bags and headed over the hill to the mighty Dannevirke.

The toss and a weak shake from our Captain

Arriving and having a gander at the pitch, no one was keen to have a bat on it. The pitch looked like they were ready to cut some hay off it and give it a roll to get rid of the pugging. It definitely looked like a bowler's paradise. So Trout (Corey) did the right thing and lost the toss, and got sent out for a bat.

Chris (Foreplay) and Jason (Travolta) were keen as mustard to get out to the middle and dodge some grenades. Chris was so keen he decided not to stay out there too long and guided one to slips for a well earned 2 runs. Pilch (James) joined Jason and did well rotating the strike to Jason to let him tee off. Making easy work of it and quickly working out the pitch actually wasn’t too bad, Jason set about destroying the new ball and bludgeoned his way to 67 off 38 balls, but not after yeeting his bat towards long on trying to hit a dinger over the bowler's head. Pilch carried on batting with style inching his way to 48 from 47 balls. Lazer (Jamie) strolls out for the first time this season soon after and casually crushed his first ball faced past point to the boundary for 4 then weaselled his way to 18 while Kurtis jumped on the half century bandwagon and made a beauty 57 off 39. Anthony, Randy and Sukh closed out the innings with Anthony (Yet to be nicknamed) showing off his batting skills getting to 28.

Travolta and Kurtis celebrating their 50's

Our bowling attack was opened up with Gariforth (Gary) and Trout, (because he’s the captain and if he wants to make terrible decisions then that’s up to him). Both bowlers stomped in with fury to start well and didn’t leak too many runs. From there another 7 of the lads had a go with the ball all bowling tight lines but stars of the show were Travolta and Anthony both picking up 3 wickets each with Anthony also succeeding in getting a run out from fine leg. 2 wickets also went to Foreplay while Randy only needed an over to take the last wicket of the day. Dannevirke falling well short and being bowled out for 112 runs with Metalfold Industries Bloomfield picking up their first win of the season by 214 runs.

Oh my goodness, during all the excitement of publishing this write up, I forgot about how the marvellous Trout managed to command the spotlight with an outstanding batting performance! Hitting the ball cleanly, finding gaps and taking advantage of the flat track Dannevirke prepared for us, he pulverised his way to an astonishing 76 off 45 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six! Possibly Bloomfield’s greatest batsman, sharpest bowler, and most humble captain.

I am pretty good at cricket.

Another game played in good spirit with our mates from Dannevirke. Palmy Super XI up next.

MVP- Jase 3, Trout 2(+ 3 for being me!), Kurtis 1.

Accelerate Automotive vs The Fellas

It was a great day for cricket; the sun was shining but a little windy and everyone was excited to play on a new grass wicket, against the top of the table Fellas.

We lost the toss and were sent into bat on a very green looking wicket that ended up playing very well. Greg and George got us off to steady start but we lost regular wickets with George, Rowan and Dan gone relatively early. Trimmy smashed his first ball back in the air to the bowler who broke his finger in a very gnarly fashion. He ended up heading to hospital so pale he looked like an early Halloween ghost.

Peak Performance

Zach and Trimmy went to work and constructed a great 70 run partnership to set us up for a decent total.

Another mini collapse brought captain Dawson to the crease who finished 13 no with young Lucas a classy 6 no to get us nicely to the 40 overs with solid momentum and, most importantly, ensuring Steve didn’t get a bat.

Innings finished 165/8

Stunning.

Missing our opening bowlers we decided to go with spin at one end and Zach at the other. Rowan almost had an early wicket with the ball just flying past Nathan in the air. But the Fellas got off to a flyer with Liam scoring 32 off 24 balls and they were making easy pickings of the chase.

The captain brought himself on and Liam still got some runs away but then came his downfall getting bowled behind his legs. With Liam in the sheds the bowlers could build a lot of pressure, however at drinks they were cruising at 85.

The team were still positive we could win; we just had to keep building pressure, but there was one batsman that was taking the game away from us, until Josh was bowled by the impressive Zach for 45.

With a lot of bowling changes we had to keep building pressure and that we did, with Rowen 3/35 and Zach 1/27 off their 8. Regular wickets and lots of dots saw the Fellas needing 15 off 3 overs. With regular field changes to block the runs and some good death bowling from Craig Trim and Craig Dawson they needed 5 from the last over with just a couple of wickets in hand. Despite a wicket in the last over the Fellas scrambled a suicidal single, which would have been out if the throw had hit, to win with just three balls to spare. An awesome finish to a great game of cricket. Thanks to the Fellas for a fun day out.

The final overs

Lots of positives we can take out of this game and look forward to bringing that momentum into next week.

MVP- 3 Zach, 2 Trimmy, 1 Rowan and 3 more for Trout because I’m incredible.
