Saturday 3rd November
Metalfold Industries Bloomfield Premier 3 vs Old Boys CC
After weeks of playing on arti’s, half the lads were fizzing at the bung to have a game on grass. Late in the week news came that’s what we were doing so Saturday couldn’t come round soon enough. Arriving at the ground labelled around the club as “The Devils Driveway”, a decision had to be made whether we bat or bowl first and looking at the white lines painted in the paddock it was clear it was definitely a bowl first kind of day. Trout did the right thing and lost the toss, giving Joe his first toss win of the season, and we were sent into bat. Good start.

Our batters decided to mix it up a little this week, they felt they deserved a break from doing batting things and thought they would leave this one up to the bowlers. So much so, top scoring for the team this week was Jason with a massive 17 closely followed by Trout with 14 because he didn’t want to make everyone else look bad so pretended like the batting was as hard as everyone was making it out to be. Everyone else contributed with a couple each, except for Glennis, he got none.
Down to the bowlers. Strolling out to the crease to bat was Travis and Jo. Old Boys’ innings went much the same as ours, loosing Travis early and no one making double digits except for Jo who, after a couple of close calls, was finally dismissed caught out in the slips by a ripper of a diving catch from Eric “Strike Rate” Foreman (AKA Christopher Carlton-Bishop-Decimus-Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius). 3 bowlers being the stars of the show, Gariforth with his pearler outswingers, and Kurtis and Sukh with their ferocious spin bowling all picking up 3 wickets each.

Good to play on grass for a change this season, here’s hoping the weather allows us to face up to Freyberg Stallions in a grudge match next week.
MVP- Gaz 3, Sukh 2, Kurtis 1.

Accelerate Automotive Bloomfield Premier 4 vs Wanderers.
Good weather and grass pitches on a Saturday. Can’t ask for much more really.
The day began with Captain Dawson earning double max fines before the game started thanks to a long list of “issues”. He did win the toss though and we got to bat first but we didn’t start well.

Dave and George both went in the first over. Craig getting another fine for not umpiring properly. Greg then went 2 overs later and we were 9/3. Not really an ideal position to be in when you chose to bat first. Dan got started but went and we were 25/4. Randy then swaggered his way to the pitch and, with the ever-dependable Trimmy, proceeded to rebuild our innings.
A couple of big shots square, one by Randy through the gate and few more down the ground and the score was looking much better. Randy managed to break his kid sized pads along the way. (well, we think they were kids sized but he’s pretty big so who knows?) Greg’s pads obviously jinxed him though and after adding 60 runs for the 5th wicket Randy went and we were 84/5 and still a few overs short of drinks.
After Drinks Murrie & Trimmy kept things going adding another 40 but wickets kept falling. All out for 157 with 6 overs to spare only Trimmy (46), Randy (32) and Murrie (21) reached double figures. Not our best effort but a score that was defendable.

Wanderers innings got under way and it was obvious very early on that we needed Sam’s wicket. He started pummelling the ball straight and Wanderers score started to rocket. At the other we tied the Wanderers batsmen in knots as they all struggled to score in the face of some good bowling.
We took a quick break at one point so the umpire could remind Dawson he “as captain he should set an example” and at drinks it was kind of even. The problem was while Randy, Rowan & Sanchez created a lot of chances and had a lot of near misses with the ball it wasn’t enough to stop Sam from hitting every 4th or 5th ball he faced to the boundary. The fielding effort was generally good, but we dropped a lot of catches – Murrie’s hands still shit. That and not enough runs on the board meant that even Bevan grabbing 2 wickets at the end including Sam wasn’t enough. Wanderers chasing us down with 8 overs to spare.
And for this weeks after match dinner Randy had pizza.
MVP- Trimmy 3, Randy 2, Craig Trim 1.
