Metalfold Industries Bloomfield Premier 3 vs The Paterson’s Maw Haws

Saturday 21st of October 2023, Paneiri Park A4.

It would be fair to say our season got off to a bad start. All our club pre-seasons were cancelled due to rain, round 1 was cancelled except for our game, we then lost that game to Dannevirke and the person who was on write-ups for the week forgot to write about it. Things were unlikely to get any easier for us as our round 2 opponents were last years 40 over competition champions, Maw Haws.

Maw Haws won the toss and put us in to bat on the same Paneiri pitch our two teams played on in round 1 last season. Bish and Jase opened for us with Bish quickly getting off the mark with some lavish cover drives to the boundary off Ryan Kings bowling. Not happy to be so elegantly dispatched Ryan offers a change-up delivery, described By Bish as a slower ball, that removed his off stump. With only 10 runs for his short stay at the crease Bish was forced to watch Trout (Corey Bary) and Jase try to continue the momentum. That momentum was abruptly halted as Jase and Trout were out caught for 12 and 14 respectively. With 32 of our 40 runs scored from boundaries at this stage it was mentioned that perhaps a different approach would be more appropriate as Dave Watson made his way out to the middle.

Dave obliged by running the odd single but mainly stuck to the game plan of hitting boundaries and avoiding any serious cardio. That changed when Paulie arrived at the wicket and took every run that was on offer and then a couple that probably weren’t. A good 72 run partnership between the pair was finally bowled for we well hit 23. Craig Trim found some form the week before with a quality 30 odd but he wasn’t able to follow it up and was out, caught, for a quick fire 16. Kurtis then joined Dave at the crease with the score at 185-6.

We had managed to build a decent launching pad to target a big score but then Maw Haws struck as Dave Watson was bowled for 85. Only he wasn’t. As he walked off the umpires were told he hadn’t been bowled and the keeper had gone for the stumping. As Dave made his way back to the crease to resume the stump was quickly picked up with the ball in hand and the appeal went up for run-out. With so much confusion about Dave walked off and sat down next to the scorers to try and work out how to record his dismissal. After that bit of controversy, the game continued, and Kurtis began his first onslaught for the season. He smashed a quick 51* off 36 deliveries and with a few small cameos form Sukh, Chicken (Caleb Greene) and Gaz we finished our innings at 258/8.

Benjamin got our innings off to another average start with Nathan Smith dispatching him for a couple of early boundaries. At the other end Gaz looked as if he might have his work cut out for him as Richard Brosnan hit a few powerfully out the middle of the bat directly to fielders. Luckily for us the 4th one he hit straight back to Gaz. It took us a second to realise the ball hadn’t put a hole in him and somehow he’d made a catch. Picking up where he had left of from last week Gaz picked up the wickets of Nathan Smith, bowled for 16 and Craig Harrison, LBW for 0. Ben then finally managed a good ball that took out Ryan Kings middle pin. Maw Haws hadn’t navigated the Bloomfield openers that well finding themselves at 24 for 4.

Maw Haws bat deep however, and Phil King and Liam Rutherford started picking up some boundaries and the score started to tick along. Captain trout decided to add some Kurtis to the mix and the decision paid off as he picked up the key wicket of Phil King. Once Gaz was brought back on at the other end the innings was all but done once he removed Liam for a well struck 34 from 41. Maw Haws were eventually bowled out for 133 off 35 overs.

A rare win for us against Maw Haws made for a very enjoyable day out. With our season back on track we now look forward to our clash with Palmy Legends next week.

MVP- Gaz 3, Dave 2, Kurtis 1.

Automotive Bloomfield Premier 4 vs PNBHS 4th XI

Hokowhitu Park A1

The sun graced Hokowhitu Park with its warm glow as Bloomfield faced off against Feilding in an exciting cricket match. The day promised thrilling moments, and the contest lived up to expectations.

Bloomfield lost the toss, and to the surprise of many, was asked to bat first. However, they began their innings with great determination. The opening pair laid a strong foundation, reaching a promising score of 39 for the loss of one wicket. As the innings progressed, the scoreboard continued to tick over, with the second wicket falling at 58 and the third at 63. At 73 for 4, Bloomfield was still in a competitive position. However, the team's middle order couldn't capitalize on the promising start, and they found themselves at 91 for 5. Despite the early setbacks, Bloomfield managed to put up a total of 95 runs, all out.

In reply, Feilding CC began their chase but couldn't get their innings off to a steady start. They struggled to build partnerships and soon found themselves in dire straits at 59 for 9. Captain Dawson 4 wickets for just 15 off 8. George 49/3 off 8, Warren 11/1 off 4 However, the Feilding tailenders displayed tremendous determination and a never-give-up attitude. They hung on for dear life, fighting valiantly for their team. Despite the odds stacked against them, they held their nerve, and with unwavering resolve, they reached the target of 96 runs, securing a thrilling victory.

The game was a testament to the spirit of cricket, where every run, every wicket, and every moment counted. Although Bloomfield ended up on the losing side, they can hold their heads high for pushing Feilding to the brink. The contest was a true display of sportsmanship and resilience, making it a memorable day on the cricket field. In the end, it was Feilding's day, and they emerged victorious, thanks to the fighting spirit of their lower-order batsmen. However, both teams deserve credit for their competitive and thrilling performance, making this a game to remember. Great work team lets look forward to Dannevirke this week
