Bad stuff in Round 8

Asbestos Surveys Bloomfield Vs Marist

I knew we were in trouble as soon as I saw Marist on a warm up run and Lazer watching them while eating a mince and cheese pie muttering something about peak performance. It was pointed out that if we tried enforcing warm up runs we would likely lose all our players. With Antz still away Ben was captain again and as usual he sent kurtis to win the toss. He didn’t and we were sent into the field.

Kurtis about to lose another toss.

Ben was looking fresh after missing FRIDAY NIGHT training (easily the worst night of the week for fat old guys to practise cricket) and opened from the tennis court end. Without his usual limp he got into the zone removing Kirshwin Reddy in the 2nd over with an outside edge to Lazer behind the stumps. Gaz opened from the other end and kept things pretty tight but was unable to make a breakthrough. Craig Dawson replaced Ben at the tennis court end and bowled a terrible over. After a few words and an over to regain his composure, he came back and took the wicket of Seth Hewage. Gareth Pringle joined Sujay at the crease and together they put on a strong partnership before Gareth was caught with a great catch by 12th Man Trimmy off the bowling of James Pilcher.

Must be Benjamin bowling because Lazer's a long way back from the stumps.

Things then started to get a bit difficult for us. Our bowling lacked any penetration and we failed to stop Sujay from getting a boundary and over and manipulating the strike. None of the other batsmen could add any further runs to the total but they were able to help keep Sujay on strike which allowed him to hit his century and put his team in a strong position. Even though Kurtis bowled well at the other end removing 3 batsmen Marist finished strong at 189-8

Glennis kicked over that chair in frustration. Poor form Glennis.

With the small boundaries on Wallace Park we figured it was a very gettable total even with the absence of Antz and Aaron. Ben and Gaz opened the batting but were unable to score quickly which immediately put us under pressure. Then the wickets of Gaz, caught off a leading edge and James caught at mid-on left us in trouble at 16-2. Ben and Kurtis continued and looked steady before Ben nicked one outside off through to the keeper. Returning for yet another cameo appearance to pull his team from the fire, Bryn Earle was next to join the in-form Kurtis at the crease.

Bryndoggs defending.

Together the put on a lovely partnership with Bryndoggs rotating the strike and Kurtis taking advantage of the shorter boundaries. Then just as thing were starting to look up tragedy struck. Twice. After hitting another lovely 4 Kurt hit his next one straight to point, out for 40. Lazer then came out only to strapull his 2nd ball straight to the fielder for a duck that left us well up shit creek. Craig Trim brought out a paddle but Bryndoggs dropped it, caught by Gareth Pringle behind the stumps off the bowling of Sandeep Kumar shortly after drinks.

A couple of Craig Dawson Specials. (Ramp?!?)

Tony Smith was next out looking for his first run in club cricket. Not only did he have to contend with tight bowling but also sledging from his team mates who were umpiring. After hitting some lovely shots for no reward he came unstuck, out for 0. Craig, Dei Hamo and a crippled Glennis were the only batsmen remaining with Dei Hamo (Damian Schilling) the only one able to add anything to the scoreboard with a sweet 10 off 15. Bloomfield 118-10.

Not the result we wanted but we didn’t bowl, field or bat well enough to give ourselves a shot. We can and have done better and will look to do so next weekend when we take on Dannevirke Yellow in our 2nd trip to Dannevirke this season. (which we won't because its canceled)

MVP- Kurt 3, Damian 2, Ben 1

A very happy Creaky.

Accelerate Automotive Bloomfield vs Palmerston CC

Lack of batting, minimal wickets taken and average umpiring, what more would we expect from this grudge match against Palmy Legends. We lost the toss and were put in to bat, it was all down hill from there. Eager to hit these bowlers for some runs, Jason and Chris opened up the batting and what a fine job they did.

Yeah, I can do GIFS now.

With the bowling starting a little wayward things were made easy for the opening pair as they waited for the bad ball and punished it. Chris stuck around till the 15th over for a well earned 13 off 50 balls before Cheese had him caught out. He was replaced by Sukh but unfortunately Sukhs innings was short lived, Jacques proved to be too good and had him out LBW. Jason soon followed him back to the dug out after being caught on the boundary by Dave Ladderman, falling just shy of the teams first 50 run innings for the season on 47. Corey and Randy hit a few runs but unfortunately once they were out, Corey 36 and Randy on 16, not many more runs were scored. All out for 165, Mark Bary not out on 1 run.

With Palmy batting and a small total to defend, we knew we had to be tight with our bowling and sharp in the field. The opening pair of Shawn and Ducky got Palmy started well. Chris eventually got Ducky out for 22, (second time lucky) caught by the keeper at the time Rhys Nielson. Ducky was soon followed by Shawn who was caught in the slip cordon with a hectic diving one handed catch by Christopher Bishop. With Ducky and Shawn out, Dave Ladderman set about scoring some runs. He saw a couple batsmen come and go for no runs but he kept his cool. Dave and Jacques, after some superb fielding and bowling, knuckled down and saw Palmy through to the win. Both batsmen being dropped in the field early on in their innings (Well done Greg and Trout, but mostly Greg) Dave finished on 62 and Jacques 36. Well bowled by Chris, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs off his 8 overs.

Some sloppy fielding and not enough runs on the board did not help our cause so some bits to work on there. Fingers crossed for a game this weekend but the weather is not looking good
