Bloomfield Premier 3 vs Palmy Legends

Saturday the 10th of February at Ongley 12

After 2 weeks with no cricket due to the weather we were back into it vs Palmy Legends. Palmy won the toss and chose to bat. Trout and Gaz opened the bowling but some tidy bowling was sent to the fence at least once every over. A dropped catch mixed in with sloppy fielding and overthrows did not help our cause. It came down to Gaz’s individual brilliance to break the opening partnership with a caught and bowled, removing Shawn Thomas for 26. It took Kurtis to slow the run rate, bowling tight lines and causing the batsmen all sort of issues. With LBWs off the menu today, we were forced to rely on more direct forms of taking wickets. However our performance in the field did not help us in our pursuit. Kurtis was the only bowler who could really slow the run rate to any degree and picked up a wicket in the process. Sukh bowled at the other end and struggled to find his length bowling into the wind but a good ball was able to remove Anuj Basatia, out stumped for 63.

Although we had made a couple of big breakthroughs the palmy batsmen were still able to hit a boundary an over. It took our 2 injured bowlers in Jase and Ben to clean up the middle order. Both limping in their run ups they were able to pick up 2 wickets each in their spells. Throw in a run out and palmy were left 8 down. I doubt that was a concern for them as the score had ballooned. Captain trout came back on to bowl and had 2 dropped catches in the 40th over just to add some salt to the wound. A catch finally taken with 2 balls remaining was hardly any consolation. Palmy ending on 256/9.

Our Innings with the bat got off to a poor start with Jase, Chicken and Dave Watson all going cheaply. A good 48 run partnership between Kurtis and Tyler helped us recover but the run rate pressure was always on. When Tyler went for 23 no one else was able to make any significant contribution to the score and after Kurtis went out for a well-played 70 off 79 deliveries our innings was done, bowled out for 192.

This was a thoroughly unenjoyable game and in which we did ourselves no favours. Hopefully our extensive post-match discussion will help us tidy up our side of proceedings. We now look forward to our next match vs Palmy Super XI which also happens to be Kurtis’ 100th game for the club.
