Accelerate Automotive Bloomfield Premier 4 vs Freyberg Fellas.
Saturday 18th of November at Ongley Park 9
On a initially promising sunny day, the excitement was palpable as the Gazebo was set up, and the team eagerly anticipated playing on a grass wicket for the first time this season. Despite the positive vibes, luck eluded us once again as we lost the toss and were asked to field first.
Despite our lineup filled with bowlers, the initial stages went well, with Trimmy dismissing Josh (Monster) for 19. The Fellas, capitalizing on energetic running between the wickets, managed to consistently take wickets. Bevan added to the tally by bowling out Liam for 12. However, Joshua, after surviving a dropped chance early on, went on to make a significant contribution, scoring 92 from 90 balls. At 172 for 4, it seemed we might be facing a target of 200 plus. However, a double bowling change saw Dawson claiming 3 wickets for 17 runs in one over, while George, from the other end, secured 3 wickets for 19 runs in the next over. The Fellas were eventually bowled out for 172, losing 6 wickets for no additional runs—an impressive effort. Chasing 173 to win, we made a strong start, reaching 80/2 at the drinks break and surpassing the DLS target. Despite rain clouds looming, the rain was not heavy enough to interrupt play during the break. However, our fortunes changed after drinks, losing a wicket immediately as Tyler was stumped for 17. The DLS target increased by 20 runs, and despite Trimmy's efforts to boost the run rate, he was caught and bowled for 8. Laurence contributed with 30 runs, but wickets continued to fall, and with a wet ball making it challenging to maintain the required run rate, we fell short by 20 runs despite Bevan's resilient batting. Despite the loss, there were positives in our fielding performance, where we capitalized on opportunities. This should instill confidence as we look ahead to the next game.
