Saturday 26th November
Metalfold Industries Bloomfield Premier 3 vs Manawatu/Foxton CC
It was yet another rainy Saturday morning when the call came through that play wouldn't be starting until 3pm if at all. From that point of the only thing that rained was confusion. Some games decided to start at 1 some at 2 and some waited till 3. After a discussion between the captains it was decided that we would start a 32 over game at 2pm.
Trout was unsure what to do in the conditions so his plan was to lose the toss and let ManFox choose. It was a solid plan that went off without a hitch. ManFox won the toss and chose to have a bat. Trout decided this week to open the bowling with his 2 fattest, most injured bowlers Ben and Gaz. They got things off to a solid start with Ben picking up the wicket Of Craig Collis, LBW for 0. that brought Steve Mattock to the crease and it soon became obvious that it was going to be a tough day at the office for our bowlers.
Jason replaced Ben at the river end and started a bit average with a few wides. Nathan Paki obviously liked what he saw and smoked his next few for 2 massive 6's in a row. The next ball was better with Nathan mis-timing one to cover and was out caught for 27. That opened up an end for us to attack but Steve manipulated the strike masterfully hitting a boundary an over and faced the majority of the balls.
Drinks were taken at the 17th over mark and it was decided that Steve's wicket was the key and perhaps the best way to get it was the spin of Kurtis H Poppe. That decision can only be described as a stroke of strategic brilliance as not long into the second spell Steve hit the ball straight to Trout who was busy chasing butterflies at long off. Kurt, Zach, Trout and Sukh took wickets consistently from that point on but ManFox was able to scrape through to a decent target of 173 off their 32 overs.
Eric and Jase continued their quest to not let anyone else in our team bat. It just about came unstuck in the first over with Jase hitting one directly to mid-off and was promptly dropped. That would prove to be costly as he plundered his way to 44 of 26 balls before Craig Collis ended his innings with an incredible caught and bowled. That was all the joy there was for ManFox though as Eric and Trout cruised through to claim another Bloomfield win in the 20th over. Eric Forman finishing on 80 off 65 in another stellar performance with the bat.
MVP- Eric 3, Kurtis 2, Jase 1.
